Violent Games Effect on the Brain

There were a study on May 29, 2010 stating that young men who plays violent video games for a long period of time show distinct changes in brain activity that correlate with aggressive behavior, preliminary research suggests. There has been little study on the effect of violent video games have on young men. The study was fourteen 25 year old's playing really violent games and fourteen 25 year old's who did not play any violent games. The results went to the American Psychiatric Association. The results showed violent games have a higher scores on the aggression questionnaire. Statistical analysis showed the increased activity in the default mode network correlated with higher scores on the aggression questionnaire, says Gregor R. Szycik. The work is very preliminary and does not show that violent video games lead to aggressive behavior, he also said.  Moderation is key, said Hilty.  "If you do anything too much, even exercise, you'll run into trouble."

  1. I am very suspicious about these types of studies. Can you link to the study? The big question that comes to mind first is ... what did this group of violent video game players do when they were not playing video games? Also, what did the group they are being compared to do when they were not playing

This is a very interesting topic.

  2. It was interesting that the results showed violent games have a higher scores on the aggression questionnaire. Also, it is good to know that even with activities like excercise too much is not healthy.

  4. Video games are used a scapegoat to say why kids are violent. Personally, I think it is up to the parent to moderate this.
